The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco has had more than 1,200 suicides, the most in the world. Eric Steel filmed 23 actual suicides in 2004. His complete video captures suicide jumpers as well as responses by those effected. Some believe he tricked the bridge committee into allowing him to film the Golden Gate for months for his documentary The Bridge. No barrier has been constructed to prevent suicide jumps.
The second most suicide jumps in the Unites States is from George Washington Memorial Bridge in Seattle, Washington where more than 230 people have died by suicide. Nearly 50 people jumped to their deaths, nine in 2006. A suicide barrier was completed on February 16, 2011 at a cost of $5,000,000,
The third most suicide jumps are from the San Diego-Coronado Bridge is the third, followed by the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg, Florida.
